PhotoJazz User Manual QuarkXPressAlpha Channels
QuarkXPress lets you use an alpha channel in a PhotoJazz image
to determine the clipping and text runaround areas of the image, just as you can for TIFF images.

Alpha Clipping
To clip a PhotoJazz image using one of its alpha channels in a QuarkXPress document:

Select the image's picture box.

Select Item > Clipping
to open the Clipping card in the Modify dialog.

In the Type pop-up menu, select Alpha Channel.

In the Alpha pop-up menu that appears, select the desired alpha channel by name.

Check the Invert box to mask the high-alpha area in instead of out.

Adjust the Outset value to move the clipping path outward or inward.

Adjust the Noise value to set the size of alpha "island" ignored as noise.

Adjust the Smoothness value to set the size of bay or peninsula ignored as detail.

Adjust the Threshold to set the alpha value above which masking occurs.
-
Click Apply or OK to try out or approve the settings.

Alpha Runaround
To set the text runaround for a PhotoJazz image
using one of its alpha channels in a QuarkXPress document:

Select the image's picture box.

Select Item > Runaround
to open the Runaround card in the Modify dialog.

In the Type pop-up menu, select Alpha Channel.
-
In the Alpha pop-up menu that appears, select the desired alpha channel by name.

Check the Invert box to run the text inside the high-alpha area in instead of outside it.

Adjust the Outset value to move the runaround path outward or inward.
