SheerVideo Test Data
To get a feel for how well SheerVideo reduces file sizes for real-world pictures,
have a look at this table of detailed results,
which lists SheerVideo's compression scores for a variety of demanding high-quality photographs.
These digitized photographs are the standard reference set of real-world images
most often cited in image compression research.
Consisting of 24 high-detail photo-quality uncompressed images,
each with a resolution of 768x512 RGB pixels at 8 bits per channel,
the set was published in uncompressed TIFF format
on Kodak PhotoCD PCD0992 (Copyright © Eastman Kodak),
one of the first PhotoCDs ever published.
In general, the more pronounced the detail in an image, the harder it is to compress with perfect fidelity.
For example, the high-contrast details crowded throughout image 05 make it particularly hard to compress.
In contrast, image 23, with large patches of subtly textured solid color over a blurred background, is highly compressible.
